Counties Manukau Sport

Counties Manukau Sports Foundation (operating as Counties Manukau Sport) is a community organisation established to help improve the quality of sport and physical activity for all people in the Counties Manukau region. This is achieved by working alongside a variety of sport and physical activity groups that are resident in Mangere-Otahuhu, Otara-Papateotoe, Manurewa, Papakura, Howick and Franklin.

Our work includes supporting regional organisations, clubs, community groups, schools, groups involved in health, Marae, Maori groups, groups for people with a disability, territorial local authorities, and the local business community. Counties Manukau Sport is a charitable trust incorporated in 1991 under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957.

Who are we?

CMS was established in 1991 by the three local authorities then serving south and east Auckland; the former Manukau City Council, Papakura District Council and Franklin District Council. Led by then Manukau Mayor Sir Barry Curtis, its creation was a local response to community need to increase participation in sport and recreation in an area of Auckland rich in cultural diversity and community pride yet struggling with significant social, health, education and economic challenges.
