Age Concern

Thriving in an inclusive society for all ages is our goal!

Contributing to Age Concern's survey on what enables older people to live, work and play well in South Auckland - Counties Manukau region will help us inform the future of ageing, the environment which facilitates this, and the potential to make changes. Follow the link on our website www.accm.org.nz to complete the survey.

The average age of people in New Zealand is rising steadily and we would like to know if the needs of older people are being met. Current research which tends to focus on the deficits and problems of ageing, is likely to have influenced current services that are provided. This perception has especially been pushed by the general focus on fiscal implications of retirement, income support, and health care services. In response, we are focusing on a positive ageing approach with this survey.

Age Concern is a non-profit organisation that provides community support, advocacy, services and information to older people together with the members of the Positive Ageing Network. With the help of four University of Auckland students on placement, we are researching what components make ageing positive, by distributing a survey throughout the Counties Manukau region. Members of the community over 65 years of age (over 55 for Maori and Pacific) willing to participate in this survey, are being asked to provide their unique experiences of what they believe contributes to people ageing positively.

The survey will be available online or in hard copy at various locations across the region where older people live, work and play.

Participant contributions to the survey will be gathered with intention of increasing the understanding of how older people live, work and play in Counties Manukau. This information will also be collected to inform future interventions targeted to improve older people's health. Age Concern in partnership with the Positive Ageing Network has the goal to make older people feel empowered, independent and valued in their communities.

Any residents of Counties Manukau aged over 65 (over 55 for Maori and Pacific) who are interested in contributing to this research are asked to follow the link on our website www.accm.org.nz to complete the survey.

For more information or for a hard copy of the survey contact Age Concern Counties Manukau on 09 2794331 ext 810 or email admin@accm.org.nz .
