Mini Champs following in Black Sticks Footsteps

The recent Owen G Glenn FIH Champions Trophy held at North Harbour Hockey Stadium had a South Auckland Schools flavour to it.

Flat Bush (Otara), Bairds Mainfreight (Otara) Manurewa Central, and Papatoetoe Central schools where all involved in a fun “mini champs” tournament which replicated the 8 team senior event.

The talent was obvious for all to see and the Counties Manukau schools played with determination and skill against schools from North Harbour.

Rick Child from Southern Districts Hockey Club worked alongside Hockey NZ and Find Your Field of Dreams Foundation to organize the day.

The schools involved are all part of the Primary Sport programme delivered by Counties Manukau Sport. Hockey has been a key sport for Primary Sport in 2011. Hockey is one of SPARC’s 7 targeted sports.
