Active Movement

Active Movement

“Active Movement” encourages babies and youngsters from 0 to five years of age to use basic movement skills that are very important for learning, moving, and communicating as they develop and grow.

We know early movement experiences are vital for children to gain basic skills such as running, hopping, catching, and balancing and research now illustrates the importance of movement experiences in developing a child’s brain.

Early childhood experiences are critical to the development of the skills, attitudes and confidence required to become an active participant in sport and recreation in later life.
The “Active Movement” initiative was founded by SPARC (Sport and Recreation NZ) in 2003, and comes with a series of 14 activity guides and a series 1 and 2 DVD. These provide activity ideas on how to get 0-5 year olds participating in quality movement experiences.
