Beach Education
Waikato River Alive has run Beach Education Days in conjunction with Surf Lifesaving New Zealand, these have taken place out at Port Waikato Beach. During these days students are taught about the importance of water safety, how to be sun smart and also the role and job that a life gurad plays.
“With the spate of recent drownings in the area, and our proximity to Port Waikato, it is essential that our students are equipped with the necessary water safety skills that Counties Manukau Sport and Waikato River Alive are able to provide.
Mercer, Meremere, Pokeno, Harrisville, Tuakau, Te Kura Kaupapa o te Puaha o Waikato Primary Schools have all participated in a Beach Education Day and during the next 12 months Te Kohanga, Onewhero will also have the opportunity to be involved in Beach Education.
