Teachers Learn How to teach Gymnastics Skills...
Thursday 10th June, saw 40 teachers from intermediate, primary and early childhood participate in the Active Schools, GymSport Foundation Skills workshop held at the GymSport and Recreation Centre, Bruce Pulman Park.
GymSport Officers Scott Glover and Ellie Harrison, took teachers through the seven fundamental movement patterns, how to teach specific gymnastics skills such as forward rolls, backward rolls, handstands, cartwheel, etc. This also included using the Kiwi GymFun Resource, teachers were able to design and experience a number of circuits around gymnastics skills. The afternoon session included working through the GymSport School Festival Handbook. GymSport has now put together and released a DVD on some of the routines in the School Festival Handbook resource.
The School Festival DVD (which is $12.50 + $2.00 p&p) can be purchased through the GymSport website at http://gymsportsnz.com/page/gym_shop.html
The workshop is organised by the Counties Manukau Sport Active Schools team who work with schools to build a culture of sport within their school and community. Developing teachers is just one aspect of the Active Schools programme - to see more about what Active Schools does, see their webpages here - www.cmsport.co.nz/programmes/sparc-programmes/active-schools
