Community Consultation

Counties Manukau Sport consulted with the community through a variety of means between September and November 2009, including

  • seven Community Consultation forums throughout the region
  • meeting with all Secondary School sport co-ordinators
  • forum for Regional Sports Organisations
  • individual meetings with school principals
  • meeting with the Chair of the School Trustees Association
  • meeting with Vice President of the Primary Principals Association
  • individual meetings with schools, clubs, community and sports organisations as requested

From these meetings, plus existing consultation material (including 2008 CMSport Stakeholder Survey, 2008 Community Sport Review and Market Research), an independent advisor is currently putting together a report which will outline the Counties Manukau community needs in relation to KiwiSport. This report will be available January 2010.

Initial findings from the report have shown that our community have highlighted the following six priorities to increase sport opportunities and skill development for school-aged children

  • Free sport activities
  • Increase school club links
  • Training of volunteers/parents
  • Increasing the number of coaches
  • Up skilling of coaching
  • Localised sport to avoid travel issues
