Sport Fit

Sportfit

Counties Manukau Sport is passionate about getting the young people in our region into sport and physical recreation activities. This is so they can reap the benefits of physical exercise including fitness, health, socialisation, confidence building, and most of all fun. We believe that a positive attitude in life will help develop these young adults into valued members of our community.

Sportfit is the brand name for the SPARC (Sport and Recreation NZ) programme for young people in secondary schools, and the programme is now running in many secondary schools throughout the country!

The aim of the programme is to encourage 13 to 18 year olds to be physically active throughout their lives, and to do this SPARC invests in more than 400 sport and physical activity coordinators. These people work with students, teachers and communities to increase opportunities for participation in sport and physical activity.

  1. improving the quantity and quality of sport and recreation opportunities in schools
  2. facilitating programmes to help develop mentors (coaches, officials, administration)
  3. facilitating inter-school competition and tournaments
  4. promoting collaboration between schools, community sport and recreation providers
