1. Greater Auckland Coaching Unit
The Greater Auckland Coaching Unit (GACU) is all about you, the coach. GACU has been formed to deliver the CoachForce programme in a singular consistent model and to provide coach development services to the wider coaching community.
The Auckland regional coaching approach consists of the formation of a regional governance unit (Greater Auckland Coaching Unit) whose function will be twofold:
-
to deliver the SPARC lead CoachForce programme in a singular consistent model across targeted NSOs & RSOs of greater Auckland
-
to provide coach development services to the wider coaching community.
GACUwill lead the development of a Auckland regional coaching strategy that:
- supports sporting codes to create improved pathways to recruit, retain and upskill coaches at all levels;
- develop a regional funding plan to streamline funding for coaches in the greater Auckland region and
-
transfer skills, knowledge and best practice initiatives across the region.

SPARC (Sport and Recreation NZ) has been working with coaches to develop a new National Coaching Strategy, and to develop the tools to create a world-class coaching environment.
The NZ Coaching Strategyis about creating a world-class coaching environment in New Zealand that will deliver significant coaching benefits to all athletes, regardless of age, race, status or location.
The key objectives of the NZ Coaching Strategy are:
- More time. Increase the quality and quantity of time coaches have for coaching activities andcoach education
- More recognition and status. Coaches are highly valued people and coaching should be a rewarding experience
- Better quality. Improve the quality of coach education and ensure there are clear pathways for development
CoachCorp creates relationships between companies and community sport to get more people involved in sport and physical activity.
Companies that are part of the CoachCorp programme contribute to New Zealand sport by allowing participating employeesflexi-time to be coaches, managers and officials in school and club level sport. This lets more people participate in sport and raises the performance of the athletes.
The Coaches Code of Ethics has been developed to support the New Zealand Coaching Strategy.
The Coaches Code of Ethics provides expectations for conduct and behaviour, which apply to all people involved in coaching in New Zealand. It also outlines a philosophy to which we believe all coaches should aspire.
The document, which has been prepared in consultation with National Sports Organisations, will provide support for all organisations that oversee coaches. By understanding and defining appropriate behaviours for coaches you will be able to provide a positive, safe and harassment-free environment in sport.
