2009 Rundown
2009 has been filled with memorable events & programmes, a wonderful assortment of people to engage with as well as many opportunities to gain greater knowledge & experience in my role as Franklin District Coordinator for Counties Manukau Sport.
The Franklin Primary Schools Push Play Marathon was the last event on our Push Play calendar. It was well supported with 233 registered runners as well as lots of enthusiastic family members also getting involved to stride out the final 2.195km of the 42km marathon distance. The atmosphere was very positive & a credit to all those that were present.
The Pukekohe Joggers & Walkers Club half marathon & 6km fun run/walk is scheduled for Sunday 7th February. The 6km option is a very achievable distance if you are just starting out or need an event to get motivated for. You might like to complete it as a family challenge especially when it's in our district. You have 7 weeks to train & whether you run or walk the distance the end result will be worth the effort. For more details contact Les Dowie on 09 238 9233 or email pukekohehalf@ihug.co.nz
During January 2010 there will be a FREE Break Away Holiday Programme operating in Tuakau for children aged 11-17 years. The programme will have a sport focus in the morning & pool activities planned after lunch. Registration forms can be collected from the Tuakau Library or the Programme Coordinator, Tammy Potini on 021 0755 872. Funding for the Break Away Holiday Programme has been made available by the Ministry of Social Development. There is an opportunity for 60 children to take part each week. The dates are:
Each day starts at the Tuakau Rugby Club with a roll call at 9.30am & the day finishes at 2.30pm. A light lunch will be organised. Providers for this programme include Counties Manukau Sport, Franklin Sport Swim & Fitness as well as clubs in the Tuakau District. Registrations close on 4th January 2010.
We need to be thinking ahead to the Weetbix Triathlon 2010. Next year the Auckland event will be held on Sunday 21st February. FREE training will begin on Monday 18th January & Thursday 21st January from 4pm to 5pm & will continue each week on these days up until the event. The training will be held at Bledisloe Park & Jubilee Pools. The invitation is extended to any child aged between 7-15 years who want to train for this event & be part of our Franklin squad. Children & adults just need to turn up on the days mentioned & join in. Also if you would like to assist us please contact me at surinder@cmsport.co.nz or 021 884 355. Another great event for our primary school children is the Franklin Primary Schools Triathlon 2010 which is on Friday 26th February. For more details email bizibodez@gmail.com or phone 021963 664.
There are so many things I am very grateful of & one of these are my wonderful friends who have happily given up their time to assist me throughout the year. Thank you very much, your help has been really appreciated. To the Franklin community have a safe & enjoyable festive season that is filled with happy memories & opportunities to be active in our great outdoors. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
