Club Information

Mangere Hawks Netball Club have 19 teams which cater for all ages, from Fun Ferns to Social ladies and Mixed. They play in the local competition at the Mangere Otahuhu Netball Centre as well have entered many tournaments and have won quite a few of those in all grades. They have many girls playing at representative level for Mangere-Otahuhu Netball Centre including 13 rep players in the 2009 season. Seven of which were in the Year 8 team which won the 2009 Manukau Counties Year 8 Inter-Centre Netball Tournament and that team also won the Yr 7 Counties Inter-Centre last year. The same Year 8 team also won the Eastern Waikato Tournament that is played in Taupiri. Our Intermediate A team have also won numerous tournaments around Auckland and also attended the Kurangaituku tournament in Rotorua and won the Intermediate A section there. We also have U13s that have played in the Amnhol tournament Easter weekend 2008 and also have 4 girls that have been selected for the Counties Manukau Maori netball team. We have been working very hard as a club alongside our coaches and players to reach this level of netball and are very glad to see the outcome and hope to see more in the near future.

Club Background

The club was established in the 1980’s but was in recession for several years until 2001 when a local family decided to get the club up and running again. We then only had four teams - Fun Ferns, Primary, Intermediate and College. Under new management in 2003 the number of teams in the club doubled and have grown into the club we are today with 19 teams ranging from Fun Ferns to Social Ladies/Mixed.

The club have produced many players that have represented the Mangere-Otahuhu Netball Centre in Representative tournaments and have also had players at the Counties Manukau Maori Representative and Amnhol tournaments. Our players are very proud to represent Mangere and hope in the not too distance future we will have players representing Counties Manukau also.

Members of the club meet Silver Ferns Coach Ruth Aitken
