Future Black Caps take Ngati Otara Park by Storm

Future Black Caps take Ngati Otara Park by Storm!

300 children from Otara Primary Schools took part in the first Cricket Kiwi 8's competiton held at Ngati Otara Park.

The day was organised by The John Walker "Find Your Field of Dreams" Foundation Primary Sport Programme with support from Auckland Cricket.

Kiwi 8's is an Auckland wide modified format of cricket which is being played throughout primary schools this year.

Primary Sport with the support of the coaches and Auckland Cricket selected a tournament team for both girls and boys section.

In the boys section Bairds Mainfreight narrolwy beat St.John's and in the girls Yendarra kept their nerve to beat a well organised Mayfield Girls team.

Holy Cross and Papatoetoe North dominate Primary School Sports

A wonderful day of sport saw aproximately 300 children take part in the Papatoetoe Sport Cluster Term one events.

All nine schools took part both at cricket and playball.

The sports were hosted at three different venues,  Papatoetoe Sports Centre, Kingsford School and Kohuora Park.

The partnership on the day included Auckland Cricket, MILO, Papatoetoe Sport Centre, Papatoetoe Cricket and The John Walker "Find Your Field of Dreams" Foundation Primary Sport coaches.

The events were extremely well attended by parents, family and teachers.

Holy Cross were firing on all cylinders in the boys cricket and swept all before them.

This also included an extremely taleted Papatoetoe Central side whom they beat in the first and second place match.

Papatoetoe North won both the girls and the boys playball comeptitions. Playball is a modifed version of softball especially created by the cluster.

Holy Cross Swim to Success-Papatoetoe Cluster Swimming Results-By Lincoln Jefferson

Holy Cross came first in the annual Papatoetoe Primary Schools Swimming competition.
Second place went to Puhinui with Papatoetoe Central finishing third.

The event was held at the Papatoetoe Centennial Pools.

Black Stick takes time out to coach Papatoetoe East Kids

Female Hockey Black Stick Samantha Harrison, took time out of her busy schedule to coach children from Papatoetoe East School.

The John Walker "Find Your Field of Dreams" Foundation Primary Sport Programme with the support of Southern Districts Hockey Club and Papatoetoe Sports Centre organised the event.

One hundred Year 5 children took part in eight different sports.

In the morning the children tried their skills at Aussie Rules, Hockey, Cricket and Futsal.  In the afternoon it was the turn of bowls, european handball, Ki o rahi and rugby tag.

One teacher was beaming with the event "The best part of the day has been the children that do not usually take part did! that was really encouraging".

TERM 1 2011  PRIMARY SPORT NEWS
Howzat!- Kiwi 8’s New cricket competition set to take Auckland by storm. 

The John Walker “Find Your Field of Dreams” Foundation Primary Sport programme and Auckland Cricket are running a new format of cricket for schools in Otara and Papatoetoe. 

The format allows for 8 a side mixed cricket gender games which gives the opportunity for all the players to bat, bowl and field. 

Primary Sport and Auckland Cricket  coaches have been delivering the format to schools for the last two terms.  The culmination of all this hard work will be the Otara Cricket Tournament  at Ngati Otara Park on Wednesday 16th March at 9:30am.

Otara Sports Cluster Softball Tournament Cancellation

Unfortunately due to poor weather today’s Otara Sports Cluster Softball tournament had to be cancelled, however, we would like to say a big thank you to all who were involved with the organisation and would be execution of the day.

Primary Sport Otara and Papatoetoe Web News February 2011

The John Walker “Find Your Field of Dreams” Foundation  Primary Sport Programme is currently running 43 out of school hour sports programmes (OSHS) across 16 schools in Otara and Papatoetoe servicing approximately 1200 year 4, 5 and 6 pupils.
The sports that are being offered in the first block of Term 1 are: Softball, European Handball, Cricket, Volleyball, Netball, Football, Rugby.  These figures are up to and including week 6 of term 1 2011.  The second block of sports begins in week 7 and a new set of children will get new sporting opportunities for the last part of the term.
Primary Sport works with 22 schools across Otara and Papatoetoe creating  sporting opportunities for children in Year 4, 5 and 6.
