Free School Holiday Programmes continue to 2023 for South Auckland children

Judith Collins, MP for Papakura, Brian Nowell, Chair of Counties Manukau Sport and Bob Savelio, Partnering Advisor for Oranga Tamariki share morning tea to celebrate the signing of the new 4 year contract through to June 2023.

Oranga Tamariki and Counties Manukau Sport are extremely delighted to advise the signing of a new 4 year contract that will enable young people between the ages of 11 and 17 to attend free school holiday programs across South Auckland. The contract requires a minimum of 4 hours per day engaged in some form of sporting activity.

Commencing from July 2019, there will be a range of different sports on offer within the local Board areas. Placement options will, in part, be determined by each club’s ability to cater for their local community’s need.

Counties Manukau Sport is in the process of working with local clubs to assist them to ensure they meet the strict criteria for managing children whilst under their care.

Counties Manukau Chief Executive Russell Preston says this is a wonderful opportunity for the clubs to introduce new people into their club environment and earn funding to support club initiatives. It also further reinforces the willingness of central government to partner with community based organisations to resolve issues at a local level.
